Threads Social Network Review: How It Works

The Twitter analog gained 100 million users in five days, then lost 70% of subscribers.

Threads is a social network similar to Twitter. Allows you to publish only short posts with photos and videos. Threads was launched by Meta in 2023.

Threads works in the browser and mobile application. The functionality in the browser version is the same as in the mobile version. Apps are available for download on Google Play and App Store.

100 million users have signed up for Threads since launch. Then the share of active users dropped by 70% - writes The Wall Street Journal, citing Sensor Tower data. Reuters, citing Mark Zuckerberg's speech, reports that the creators expected a decline in user activity and see no reason to worry.

How Threads works and what you can do with it

Threads has an intuitive interface. Externally, Threads is similar to Instagram, but its functionality is similar to Twitter. We'll tell you where you can import data, how the feed and reactions are structured, what the post editor features are, how to search for user accounts, and what's in your profile and settings.

Import data from Instagram. Threads allows you to import personal data, avatars and subscriptions from Instagram. You can refuse the import.

Smart feed. The feed displays posts and recommendations from friends. In your channel settings you can choose which posts will be given priority. To do this, select the "For You" or "Subscriptions" button.

Reactions. The functionality is standard - messages can be liked, commented and republished. You can share posts across apps. For example, you can create a post on Threads or create an Instagram story*.

Search. In Threads, you can search for other account profiles by name. To do this, click the search icon. Here the social network will offer to check recommended accounts. Your search history is listed in Recent.

Profile. The profile contains information about the number of subscribers, published posts, "Edit profile" and "Share profile" buttons (in other applications).

Settings. Account management. The settings button is located at the very top of your profile, next to the Instagram icon. These are the sections in settings:

- Invite friends and follow friends. You can invite friends via WhatsApp, via SMS or generate a link to send to other applications.

- Notifications. You can prevent notifications about reactions, acceptance of follow requests and registration of new users from your Instagram subscriptions.

- Confidentiality. Here you can set your profile to private, limit mentions, block users and hide the display of likes on posts. You can also disallow mentions of publications containing the words stop. For example, if you add the word "cats" to your stopword list, posts with it will no longer appear in your feed.

- Account. Here you can set a social network timer or temporarily disable your profile. The timer function allows you to set reminders to remind you when it's time to rest. Notifications appear every 10, 20 or 30 minutes.

There is also a help and information section in the settings. In "Help" you can contact the developers in case of a problem or question. See "About" for thread privacy policy.
